フランスではレジャーやスポーツとしてのハンティングは、サッカーに次ぐほどの人気を持つ競技だと言われています。狩猟免許を持つ人数が120万人以上（ほとんど男性）というのは、狩猟免許取得資格のある、16歳以上のフランス男性の約5%に相当し、サッカー愛好者の220万人に次ぐ人数で、テニス愛好者の110万人よりも多いのです。

In France, hunting as a leisure and sporting activity is said to be the second most popular sport after soccer. More than 1.2 million people (mostly men) have hunting licenses, which is about 5% of all French men over the age of 16 who are eligible for a hunting license, second only to the 2.2 million soccer enthusiasts and higher than the 1.1 million tennis enthusiasts.

かつてはハンティングは、貴族などの特権階級と裕福な層の為の娯楽であり、生活の糧を得るための仕事として猟をする猟師以外の普通の人々にとっては、贅沢な遊びでした。しかし時代の流れとともに近代になってからは、徐々に幅広く楽しまれるようになりました。

In the past, hunting was a pastime for the privileged and wealthy classes, such as the aristocracy, and a luxury game for ordinary people other than hunters who hunted as a job to earn a living. However, with the passage of time, it gradually became a widely enjoyed pastime in the modern era.

70年ほど前のフランスのハンティングジャケットです。まだハンティングが高級な趣味だった時代に、工場での大量生産ではなく、テーラーで注文仕立てで作られた物。高機能と高性能を追い求め、化学繊維とファスナーとvelcroで構成された現代のハンティングウェアが捨て去ったものが、たくさん残っていた頃のジャケットです。

This is a French hunting jacket from about 70 years ago. It was made to order by a tailor, not mass-produced in a factory, in the days when hunting was still a high-class hobby. Today’s hunting clothes are made of synthetic fibers, fasteners and velcro in pursuit of high functionality and performance. These jackets are from a time when many of the flavors that have been discarded in such modern products were still present.

狩りの獲物を入れるゲームポケットは作られていないジャケット。それの意味するものは、元のオーナーが獲物を自分で運ぶ必要のない人(使用人や部下に運ばせることができる人）か、ゲームポケットに入る小型の野ウサギや野禽類の狩りをせず、鹿や猪といった大型の四つ足動物だけを獲物として狩りをする人だったのでは？と言う事です。大型の四つ足動物の狩りは、野ウサギなどよりも狩りとしてゲーム性が高く、長らく貴族階級にしか許されない狩りでした。

This jacket was not made with game pockets to hold hunted prey. What this means is that the original owner was either someone who didn’t need to carry his own game (someone who could have a servant or subordinate carry it for him), or someone who hunted only large four-legged animals such as deer and boar, not the smaller wild rabbits and fowl that could fit in the game pockets. That’s what I mean. Hunting large four-legged animals is more gamey than hunting wild rabbits, and for a long time it was only allowed for the aristocracy.

このジャケットが、ある程度の社会的に高い地位にあった人の物だった事は、ゲームポケットが無いことの他にも、工場で作られたものではなく、テーラーでの仕立て仕事による物だという点に見て取れます。

That this jacket belonged to a person of high social standing can be seen in the lack of game pockets, as well as the fact that it was not made in a factory, but was tailored by a tailor.

左胸のポケットはパッチ＆フラップのポケットでは無く、フラップ付きの箱ポケットという注文仕立てならではの珍しい作り。ポケットの袋布は、もちろん取り外して清潔な生地で作り替えています。

The left chest pocket is not a patch-and-flap pocket, but a box pocket with a flap, which is unique to custom tailoring. The bag cloth of the pocket is of course removed and replaced with a clean fabric.

ジビエの季節とはまた違った、いわばハンティングのシーズン序盤の秋の季節に向けて仕立てられたと思われる生地のジャケット。まだ素朴さが残る織機の頃の物と思われる生地は、中肉のキャンバスに近いしっかりした密度とはりのあるもの。

This jacket is made of a fabric that seems to have been tailored for the autumn season, which is different from the gibier season and is, so to speak, the early stage of the hunting season. The fabric, which seems to have been made in the days of the loom when it was still rustic, has a firm density and firmness, almost like a medium-firm canvas.

元からあったボタンホールの糸を解いて、リネンコードでかがり直すとともに、ボタンホールを新たに作り2倍の数にして、ズラリと並ぶボタンがクラシックでありながらモダンで迫力のある表情を作り出します。

The original buttonholes are unraveled and re-bound with linen cord, and new buttonholes are made to double the number of buttons, creating a classic yet modern and powerful look.

Vintageボタンの中でも1番人気が高く、1つがビッグマック2個分ぐらいが相場のフランスのハンティングジャケットに使われていたボタン。あえて様々な素材と、いろんな動物のモチーフをランダムに選んで縫い付けています。

This is the most popular Vintage button, and it costs as much as two Big Macs. These buttons were used on French hunting jackets. The buttons are sewn on with a variety of materials and randomly selected animal motifs.

少し塗装が剥がれたり、色のくすみがあったりするボタンには、このジャケットに刻まれた70年近い時間の痕跡が刻み込まれています。

ラウンドしたフラットなパターンで、少し大きめの襟の表情は、フランスのヴィンテージならではの独特の雰囲気が漂います。一旦解体してダメージを補修するとともに、細かなステッチを入れたアンティークリネンにえりの裏側を変更しています。

The round, flat pattern and the slightly larger collar give it a unique vintage French look. Once dismantled, the damage was repaired and the back of the collar was changed to antique linen with fine stitching.

フランスの古い仕立てのジャケットによく用いられる、背中側に流れる肩線の仕立て。肩の部分がバイアス生地使いのようになり、肩への沿いが良く、動きやすくなるとともに、柔らかな印象の肩になります。前身頃も着た時に立体的な膨らみをうむ、ゆるい曲線を描くヘムになっています。

This is a tailoring technique often used in old French tailoring jackets, where the shoulder line runs down the back. The shoulders are made of a bias fabric, which makes it easier to move and gives a softer look to the shoulders. The front of the garment also has a loosely curved hem that creates a three-dimensional bulge when worn.

ダメージに上から生地をのせてpatchするのではなく、象嵌細工のように生地をくり抜きながらモザイク状に生地をpatchしていくフランス独特のpatch work=travail de patchで描き出した象嵌模様。

The inlaid pattern is drawn by the unique French patch work = travail de patch, where the fabric is patched in a mosaic pattern while hollowing out the fabric like inlaid work, instead of patching the damage by putting the fabric on top.

擦り切れていたヘムや袖口、左右の前身頃には、様々なvintageから取り出したリネン生地を使ったpatchと丹念なdarningによる補修を行いました。

The frayed hems, cuffs, and left and right fronts were patched using linen fabric from various vintage sources, and painstakingly repaired by darning.

古い裏地を外し、内側に溜まった埃を取り除き、手でまつりつけたライナーの生地と色のコントラストや、リネンコードで留め付けた縫い皺の作るふくよかな味わいが、古着にまとわりつく不潔感を消し去り、さらに古着につきまとう重い印象を払拭し、現代的な印象へと変化させる要素です。ラスティックなコットンブロードは、適度な張りとシワ感が有り、インドで織られた素朴な糸の表情が魅力です。
