End of 19th Century Antique Manual Loom Linen Fabric Made French “Marine Nationale” Type Work Jacket

70年ほど前の、フランス海軍“Marine Nationale”の下士官のテイラー仕立てのワークジャケットをベースに作ったコート／ジャケット。

This coat/jacket is based on the tailored work jacket of a junior officer of the French Navy “Marine Nationale” from about 70 years ago.

今なお世界のリネン原料のフラックス（亜麻）生産の70％を生み出し続けるフランスは、文字通りのリネン大国です。栽培には温帯から熱帯の気候を必要とするため、綿の栽培が難しいフランスの気候に適した亜麻は、衣類のみならずシーツなどの寝具や寝間着などのホームリネンから、テーブルクロスやナプキンなどのテーブルリネンにも使われフランス人にとっては綿以上に生活に密着した最も身近な繊維です。

近年では中国などの紡績技術の発展により、原料栽培以外の工程（特に潤紡よる紡糸はほとんど中国）はフランス以外で行われ、リネンを糸にする紡績工程は国外がほとんどとなりました。しかし、この生地が作られた100年以上も前の時代では、フランス国内で栽培、紡績、製織された真正のフレンチリネンと言える生地が作られていました。

In recent years, with the development of spinning technology in China and other countries, most of the processes other than the cultivation of raw materials (especially spinning by Junbun in China) are carried out outside of France, and the spinning process to turn linen into yarn is now mostly done outside of France. However, more than 100 years ago, when this fabric was produced, the fabric was grown, spun, and woven in France and could be called a genuine French linen.

作業時の上っ張りとして仕立てられたものとは思えないような仕立て。ダーツでウエストにシェイプを効かせ、このころならではの美意識が注がれた、コンパクトなフィット感のコート／ジャケットです。

The tailoring is such that it is hard to believe that it was tailored as a work jacket. With darts to shape the waist, this coat/jacket has a compact fit and is infused with a sense of beauty that is unique to these days.

海軍らしさを表す、鋭角のピークドラペルの凛々しい襟周りの顔つき。

襟やヘムへは、antiqueのリネン生地をpatch。派手な継ぎはぎを避けて、ステッチの控えめなコントラストだけが主張する大人の魅せるアクセント。ポケットにも、アクセントのpatchを。

The dignified face around the collar with sharply angled peaked lapels that expresses a nautical look.

Antique linen fabric is patched on the collar and hem, avoiding showy joints, and only a modest contrast of stitches is used to create an appealing accent for adults. Pockets also have patches for accent.

襟を囲むpatchの1.2-1.5mmの細かな手のステッチ。全て手かがりのボタンホール。手の温もりや素朴さとは全く違う乾いた手仕事。でもその自然な乱れが作り出す表情は、ミシンには作り出せない味を生む。裏えりを縫うのもリネンのハンドステッチでの千鳥ステッチ。

1.2-1.5mm fine hand stitching on PATCH surrounding the collar.　Dry handwork that is completely different from the warmth and simplicity of the hand. However, the expression created by the natural disorder of the handwork gives it a taste that cannot be created by a sewing machine.

原型となった形は合わせは深いものの、4ボタンのシングルのジャケットだったもの。その深い合わせを活かして、ボタンホールを作ってダブルに変更したものがベースです。前身頃の見返しを止めつけるのもハンドステッチのアレンジしました。

The original shape was a single jacket with four buttons, although the lap was deep. The base was a double jacket with buttonholes made to take advantage of the deep fit. Hand stitching was also arranged to fasten the front turnover.

選んだボタンはランダムに選んだフランスのvintageとantiqueのガラスボタン。プラスティックがまだ無かった頃に、重宝されたガラスのボタン。

The buttons selected were French vintage and antique glass buttons chosen at random. Glass buttons were useful in the days when plastic was not yet available.

クリスタルや色ガラスなど、装飾的な意味合いが強いチェコやベネツィアのガラスボタンと比較すると、素朴で飾り気のない、庶民や労働者にむけた実質的なシンプルな形がたくさん作られて浸透していたフランス特有のボタンたち。

Compared to Czech and Venetian glass buttons, which are more decorative, such as crystal and colored glass, French buttons are rustic and unadorned, and many simple, substantial shapes were made and penetrated by the common people and workers.

不揃いな形の元素材を切ってくり抜いて削って作る、木や貝や骨や角より整形が簡単。形や大きさの調整も自在。工場で量産ができて安価、木や紙より丈夫。乳白色の素朴な質感と形の、使い込まれて色のくすんだボタンが、味わいをさらに深めます。

It is easier to shape than wood, shells, bones, and horns, which are made by cutting, hollowing out, and cutting down the original material of irregular shapes. 1枚仕立てのジャケットにライニングしたラスティックなコットンブロードは、適度な張りとシワ感が有り、素朴な糸の表情が魅力です。

ポケットは裏地をつけて手縫いで取り付け、丸みと緩やかな立体感のあるポケットに。背の左肩には、リネンコードのエンブロイダリー。
