今なお世界のリネン原料のフラックス（亜麻）生産の70％以上を生み出し続けるフランスは、文字通りのリネン大国です。栽培には温帯から熱帯の気候を必要とするため、綿の栽培が難しいフランスの気候に適した亜麻は、衣類のみならずシーツなどの寝具や寝間着などのホームリネンから、テーブルクロスやナプキンなどのテーブルリネンにも使われフランス人にとっては綿以上に生活に密着した最も身近な繊維です。

France, which still produces more than 70% of the world’s flax, is literally a linen powerhouse. 近年では中国などの紡績技術の発展により、原料栽培以外の工程（特に潤紡よる紡糸はほとんど中国）はフランス以外で行われ、リネンを糸にする紡績工程は国外がほとんどとなりました。しかし、この生地が作られた100年以上も前の時代では、フランス国内で栽培、紡績、製織された真正のフレンチリネンと言える生地が作られていました。

In recent years, with the development of spinning technology in China and other countries, most of the processes other than the cultivation of raw materials (especially spinning by Junbun in China) are carried out outside of France, and the spinning process to turn linen into yarn is now mostly done outside of France. However, more than 100 years ago, when this fabric was produced, the fabric was grown, spun, and woven in France and could be called a genuine French linen.

職人の勘と手作業がまだまだ残っていた時代に紡がれた糸をインディゴ染料で染め、フランスで手動織機で織られた1900年代初頭のリネン生地。

This linen fabric from the early 1900s was dyed with indigo dye from yarn spun at a time when craftsmen still had intuition and manual labor, and woven on a manual loom in France.

埃と煤のような汚れに厚く覆われた状態で農家の古い納屋から見つけられた生地。陽灼けなどによる褪色は無く、長い時間埃と煤に触れていた事による、染みのような黒斑が入り混じった濃いインディゴの複雑で深い色い。

The fabric was found in an old farmer’s barn, covered thickly with dust and sooty dirt. There is no fading from sunburn, and the color is a deep, complex shade of dark indigo with stain-like black spots from long exposure to dust and soot.

Biaudeに使われた極細の麻糸を高密度に織り上げた生地とは、また違った経糸のむら感が強い素朴な顔つき。鈍い光沢のあるドライで少しジャリっとした手触りは、毛羽の無い上質なリネンならではの物。

It has a rustic look with a strong warp irregularity, different from the densely woven fabric of ultra-fine linen yarns used for Biaude. The dry and slightly jerky touch with a dull sheen is unique to fine linen with no fluff.

この生地を使って製作した、フランス海軍“Marine Nationale”の下士官のテイラー仕立てのワークジャケットをベースに作ったコート／ジャケット。

This coat/jacket is based on the tailored work jacket of a junior officer of the French Navy “Marine Nationale”, which was made using this fabric.

作業時の上っ張りとして仕立てられたものとは思えないような仕立て。ダーツでウエストにシェイプを効かせ、このころならではの美意識が注がれた、コンパクトなフィット感のコート／ジャケットです。

The tailoring is such that it is hard to believe that it was tailored as a work jacket. With darts to shape the waist, this coat/jacket has a compact fit and is infused with a sense of beauty that is unique to these days.

海軍らしさを表す、鋭角のピークドラペルの凛々しい襟周りの顔つき。

襟やヘムへは、antiqueのリネン生地をpatch。派手な継ぎはぎを避けて、ステッチの控えめなコントラストだけが主張する大人の魅せるアクセント。ポケットにも、アクセントのpatchを。

The dignified face around the collar with sharply angled peaked lapels that expresses a nautical look.

Antique linen fabric is patched on the collar and hem, avoiding showy joints, and only a modest contrast of stitches is used to create an appealing accent for adults. Pockets also have patches for accent.

襟を囲むpatchの1.2-1.5mmの細かな手のステッチ。全て手かがりのボタンホール。手の温もりや素朴さとは全く違う乾いた手仕事。でもその自然な乱れが作り出す表情は、ミシンには作り出せない味を生む。裏えりを縫うのもリネンのハンドステッチでの千鳥ステッチ。

1.2-1.5mm fine hand stitching on PATCH surrounding the collar.　Dry handwork that is completely different from the warmth and simplicity of the hand. However, the expression created by the natural disorder of the handwork gives it a taste that cannot be created by a sewing machine.

原型となった形は合わせは深いものの、4ボタンのシングルのジャケットだったもの。その深い合わせを活かして、ボタンホールを作ってダブルに変更したものがベースです。前身頃の見返しを止めつけるのもハンドステッチのアレンジで。

The original shape was a single jacket with four buttons, although the lap was deep. The base was a double jacket with buttonholes made to take advantage of the deep fit. Hand stitching was also arranged to fasten the front turnover.

アンティーク生地で包んだreinforced buttonの並ぶ前身頃のfacingは、表から見えませんが、なかなか趣のある姿。

The front facing, lined with reinforced buttons wrapped in antique fabric, is not visible from the front, but has quite an atmospheric appearance.

ボタンはフランスのヴィンテージのcorozo(主にエクアドルのタグワ椰子)。実の中の種子の中の胚乳部分を加工して作られた趣のあるボタン。

19世紀から1950年代にかけてのプラスティック開発以前に、滑らかな手触りと硬さ丈夫さ染色性の良さを利用して、盛んに作られていたボタンです。

The buttons are vintage French corozo (mainly tagua palms from Ecuador). These quaint buttons are made by processing the endosperm part of the seeds inside the fruit.

Before the development of plastics from the 19th century to the 1950s, these buttons were actively made to take advantage of their smooth feel, hardness, durability, and dyeability.

vegetable ivoryの呼び名通りの乳白色の実を削って加工される何とも言えない丸みと、乳白色のベースを染める事で生まれる優しい色合いの魅力。見た目に反してしっかりした質感と重みを兼ね備えた、味わい深さを持ったボタンです。

As the name “vegetable ivory” implies, this button has an indescribable roundness created by shaving milky white berries, and the charm of the gentle coloring produced by dyeing the milky white base. Contrary to its appearance, this button has a solid texture and weight, and has a deep sense of taste.

表から糸を通す穴が開けられた普通の形では無く、脚のある形に全体を削り出したボタンの裏側に糸を通す穴を開け、表面には飾り模様が彫られたcorozoならではの凝った形のボタン。

The button is not a normal button with a hole for threading from the front, but a button with an elaborate shape unique to corozo, with a hole for threading on the back side of the button, which is carved with a decorative pattern on the surface, and the entire button is carved with legs.

襟裏に選んだのは、Maquignonの衣服に良く使われていた、細いリネン糸で織った生地をインディゴで染めたvilletteと呼ばれる生地。
