今なお世界のリネン原料のフラックス（亜麻）生産の70％を生み出し続けるフランスは、文字通りのリネン大国です。温帯から熱帯の気候を必要とするため、綿の栽培が難しいフランスの気候での栽培に適したリネンは衣類のみならずシーツなどの寝具や寝間着などのホームリネンから、テーブルクロスやナプキンなどのテーブルリネンにも使われフランス人にとっては綿以上に生活に密着した最も身近な繊維です。

France continues to produce 70% of the world’s flax, the raw material for linen, and is literally a linen powerhouse. Because linen requires a temperate to tropical climate, it is well suited to France’s climate, where cotton is difficult to grow. Linen is used not only for clothing, but also for home linens like sheets and sleepwear, as well as table linens like tablecloths and napkins. For the French, it is the fiber most closely associated with their daily lives, even more so than cotton.

This deep-colored 1/1 plain weave fabric uses charcoal gray and gray melange yarns for the warp and off-white for the weft. It is a mixed gray fabric for workwear, known in France as “GRIS de Travail” (gray workwear), due to the fabric’s blend of white and black.

モチーフにしたのは、まだハンティングが高級な趣味だった時代のハンティングジャケット。高機能と高性能を追い求め、化学繊維とファスナーとvelcroで構成された現代のハンティングウェアが捨て去ったものが、たくさん残っていた頃のジャケットです。

The motif is a hunting jacket from a time when hunting was still a luxury hobby. This is a jacket from a time when the pursuit of high functionality and high performance left behind many of the things that modern hunting wear, composed of synthetic fibers, zippers and velcro, has discarded.

It is one of those rare pieces that was not mass-produced in a factory but tailored to order by a tailor, and has unusual specifications: the game pocket for hunting game was not made, and the left chest pocket is a box pocket without a flap.

原型のオーナーは獲物を自分で運ぶ必要のない人(使用人や部下に運ばせることができる人）か、ゲームポケットに入る小型の野ウサギや野禽類の狩りをせず、鹿や猪といった大型の四つ足動物だけを獲物として狩りをする人だったのでしょう。大型の四つ足動物の狩りは、野ウサギなどよりも狩りとしてゲーム性が高く、長らく貴族階級にしか許されない狩りでした。

The original owner was probably someone who did not need to carry the game himself (someone who could have his servants or subordinates carry it for him), or someone who hunted only large four-legged animals such as deer and boar, rather than hunting small hares and fowl that could fit in the game pockets. Hunting large four-legged animals was more gamey than hunting hares and other game, and for a long time was a hunt reserved for the aristocracy.

The round, flat pattern and the slightly larger collar give the look of a unique French vintage. Once dismantled, the damage was repaired and the collar was replaced with an antique linen back collar with fine stitching.
