生地はフランスのvintageのリネン。四角のパターンを織り込んだジャカード織の珍しいもの。

上品な光沢とブルーグレーの落ち着いた色合い、vintageの時間を経た風合いを兼ね備えた魅力的な生地です。

端部の織柄をストライプ状に織り変えた凝った仕様のリネン生地。その部分を裾に取り入れた生地の変化も趣があります。

背身頃の表はecruのAncien Drap en Lin=アンティークのベッドリネン。ベッドシーツがリネン生地というのは、なんとも贅沢な感じがしますが、気候が寒冷で綿栽培ができず、コットンはアラビアかインドからの輸入にたよるしかなかったフランス国内でも栽培出来る亜麻は、昔の庶民にとって一番身近にある繊維。

The front of the back is made of Ancien Drap en Lin = antique bed linen by ecru. It may seem extravagant to use linen for bed sheets, but flax was the most familiar fiber to the common people in the past, as it could be grown even in France, where the climate was too cold for cotton cultivation and cotton had to be imported from Arabia or India.

狭幅の生地しか織れなかった古い織機の生地を、幅を広くして使うために農家の奥さんなどが、手で丹念に縫い合わせて繋いでいた頃の趣のあるステッチをモチーフにした背中のステッチ。今回のステッチは、メランジミックスのグレーのリネン糸のハンドステッチ。

The stitching on the back is inspired by the quaint stitching from the days when farmer’s wives and others painstakingly sewed together by hand to join fabrics from old looms that could only be woven in narrow widths for wider widths. This time, the stitches are hand-stitched with a melange mix of gray linen threads.

手動織機だった時代に織られた100年以上の時を経たリネンは使い込まれたオールドリネンのくったりとした風合いと、それぞれの家庭の奥さんが、工夫を凝らして、糸を抜いてかがったり結んだりして作るdrawn workなどの刺繍がほどこされ、なんともいえない魅力あふれる表情が、着た人の背中に趣を加えてくれます。

The linen, woven more than 100 years ago when it was woven on a manual loom, has the soft texture of old linen that has been used for a long time, and the embroidery, such as drawn work, which is made by the wives of each family using their ingenuity to pull out threads, bend and tie them, is done in an indescribably charming way. ボタンは、水牛の角のボタン。手縫いのボタンホールに、通常giletに使うものより少し大振りな直径のボタンを、ずらりと縫い付けています。内側にも、フランスの農家の納屋で見つかった古布で包んだボタンがずらり。

The buttons are buffalo horn buttons. Buttons slightly larger in diameter than those normally used for gilets are sewn in rows on hand-sewn buttonholes. The inside is also lined with buttons wrapped in old cloth found in a French farmer’s barn.
